Highlighting one of our incredible ministries across our Faith Family.
Foodcare Taree
Taree’s Global Care branch, Foodcare, is a not-for-profit organisation that operates two mornings each week and has been running for the past decade! With 12 volunteers who enjoy serving in the community and the food outlet being open to anyone in the local community (many of which are repeat customers and have become like family), Foodcare Taree continuously makes a difference in hundreds of peoples’ lives each and every week.
When asking Ps Jenny Brewer, the overseer and coordinator of all things Foodcare Taree, about the processes involved in this outreach, she had this to share:
“We receive weekly food deliveries from Foodbank Sydney. This has been a great partnership over the years, with low cost and often free food items donated, making it possible to provide affordable food to families doing it tough. During the floods, Global Care delivered over 200 emergency care boxes directly to the Council Recovery Centre, and we were nominated by Council as one of the nominated Flood Relief Organisations in the region providing much-needed assistance.
We also assist the local neighbourhood centre, providing food and care boxes when needed. Last year, we donated 80 Christmas hampers to the hospital community centre and many organisations in town. Each year, Hungry Jack’s also fundraises to donate groceries to Global Care.
Recently, we’ve been able to give food boxes and vouchers to a family who googled “food assistance”, as they were doing it really tough and didn’t know who to ask for help. They had lost income due to the floods and had just moved to the region. Global Care was the only organisation who contacted them back - they drove an hour to receive food boxes from us, and when we offered vouchers to assist them, they were overwhelmed with emotion. [This was] A wonderful opportunity to be the light in the community!”
