A Leader’s Story

An insight into the past and present of one of our extraordinary leaders.

Hayley Jobson

The Director of Taree’s Faith Family Early Learning Centre, Hayley Jobson is a bright and cheery leader within our Faith Family! Born locally in Taree, Hayley spent a brief period of time in Newcastle pursuing Nursing before returning to Taree to continue her career in Early Childhood Education (with a short job in Retail between roles).

Hayley has a passion for science and loves the analysis of systems and facts, especially those that she gets to implement in her role to assist her Centre in growing healthier and stronger.

“If everything is running correctly and we have healthy, happy kids,
then we’re achieving our ultimate goal!”

Flexibility is a critical asset in Hayley’s role, as there are so many aspects of her day-to-day that can fluctuate and change on the fly; as such, Hayley noted the value of community and care:

“You need a core group of people around you who are protective of you and your time and your health and vice versa; I have Jenny and Rick. You also need your own coping mechanisms, of course, but you need that person there that can help as well, that core group of people.”

“It’s also valuable to read and understand the resources you have in the community; we have some Beyond Blue resources, things like that - it’s just important to make sure you’re reading and knowing what resources you have around you.”

When asked about three key traits and skills that Hayley would consider the most important in ensuring long-term health and success in her role, she listed the following:

  1. Adaptability

  2. Strong mental health and coping mechanisms

  3. Desire for learning

Hayley is passionate about the philosophy of approaching Early Childhood Education with the perspective of “trying to create future human beings, people who are strong, emotionally and socially, and are able to cope in the real world”. Systems such as the Circle of Security and documents such as the United Nations Rights of the Child are favourites of Hayley’s that align with her educational perspective.

“Learn to be social” is some of the primary advice Hayley had to share with anyone who might be considering a position similar to hers at a younger age, “The more you’re talking and communicating with everyone, the more people know about you and the more security you gain. Most people can be trained in the regular things, but that aspect of being a people person can be really tricky.”

Hayley is an amazing leader and a caring person who is eager to talk about her role, share what is new in her community and discuss the opportunities that are available for keen individuals looking to volunteer at Faith Family Early Learning!
